| African Crafts to Make Jan 14th 2012, 06:01 There are a great many African crafts to make a huge range of wonderful items. You can make anything from a rain stick to batik printed clothing. The joy of many African arts is that they require little or specialist equipment as they have evolved from using just the natural products that were available. The crafts generally produced wonderful and brightly colored items which are both practical and useful. Patchworks can be made using the typically African fabrics which are now quite easy to get hold of and many items can be transformed using beadwork in the traditional African styles. A great way of sourcing African crafts to make is through the internet. Now that the internet is available to the majority of us, it is easy to use a search engine to find websites that information regarding the local African crafts. Some are more detailed than others and will need some traditional materials, but many can be undertaken easily and inexpensively. Batik dying is one of the really authentic African crafts to make. You will need to refer to either a website or a book for information on how to create the designs and achieve the effect. It involves the use of wax and dyes and the end results are colorful and vibrant textiles which can be used for any number of purposes. You could even transform a piece of clothing that you already own with a batik design. This is a great way to rejuvenate some of your wardrobe. As I mentioned, you will need to either read up on the process or perhaps you could find a class at your local college. Art colleges or groups may have a class that you could join to learn this wonderful African style of fabric painting. You will also find that bead work and jewellery making features highly on the list of African crafts to make. Beads are easy to buy from your local craft stores and are usually inexpensive. Again you will need to do some research to find out what designs and styles of jewellery are traditional in Africa. You will be able to discover quite a lot on the internet but do not restrict your searches just to craft websites. Have a look at a range of African sites and also try to look at as many pictures as possible of African jewellery and how it is traditionally worn. You will then have an idea of what it is that makes a piece look African. Try to copy the designs that you see both in shapes and colours. This way you will be making pieces that are unique to yourself but have a huge African influence. There are many African crafts to make at home and also in a craft circle. Far more than it is possible to mention here. Keep your eyes open for styles and designs and if at all possible make contact with an African artist or craft worker for some genuine traditional tips. | |

| The Best Spanish Guitar Songs Ever – And Why? Jan 14th 2012, 07:21 Ok, let’s get real for a second. I could say I know what are the best Spanish guitar songs ever simply because I like Spanish guitar. BUT, if I was to say that I can actually play these songs then it might have a little more weight than just some random dude speaking to you about their opinion. But for me what comes down to deciding on the best Spanish guitar songs is a few factors. Those factors are… Playability. If you’re fingers don’t naturally move from the frets to the chords. Or if your right-hand is struggling to make sense of a pattern than doesn’t match a natural movement in your hand then it’s probably not written for guitar. It’s either one of two things: One, it was written for another instrument and arranged for guitar or two: it was written by Villa-Lobos. HAHA! “Allegro” written by Matteo Carcassi back in the 19th century is a perfect example of playability. Each note naturally comes to the guitarist in way as if the guitar was built just for this song. No terrible, uncomfortable, finger positions where you have to “yoga-stretch” your way through unimaginable scaler territory. This is simply put, a natural development of where each individual finger should go from start to finish. Musicality. If you can’t sing the melody then it’s probably not going to win over your heartstrings. No song does this better than the famed “Romanza”. This song is so famous on the guitar yet no one knows who wrote it. What we do know is that the song was written in the 19th century. Its authorship has been attributed to greats like Antonio Rubira, David Del Castillo, Francisco Tárrega, Fernando Sor and many others. But we still don’t really know who wrote it. Pretty strange considering it’s probably the most famous Spanish guitar song ever. Durability. The ability to last through the ages is always a great indicator that a song was not only well crafted but has the soul to outlast fads and passing fancies. No song has done this better than the “Concierto de Aranjuez”. Truly a tale of soul and spirit. This concert was originally written by the blind composer “Joaquín Rodrigo back in 1939. He tried to get it published by a large publishing company but was turned down. That didn’t keep him from pushing forward. He decided to publish the song himself and made millions in the process. An incredible composition for Spanish guitar you should definitely check out either Andrés Segovia or Paco de Lucía’s version of the song. | |

| Should I File Bankruptcy? Jan 14th 2012, 07:01 This is a common question, “Should I file bankruptcy?” Well, that depends upon many factors and only the person who is actually filing for bankruptcy protection can answer that. Bankruptcy is designed to provide an individual or business filing for bankruptcy relief from their creditors and discharge their eligible debts. After the discharge is entered by the court the individual or business can continue without the burdens of the discharged debts and lead a healthy productive life. Bankruptcy is designed to provide a fresh start. So how is the question whether to actually file bankruptcy answered? Each individual or business needs to weigh the positives and negatives of filing bankruptcy and then make the best financial decision. There are no easy answers when debts become so much of a burden that bankruptcy help is sought. During one of our free consultations we will discuss your income, expenses and assets to determine what is possible. Do you qualify to file a chapter 7 bankruptcy and receive a complete discharge of your eligible debts, or is a chapter 13 necessary to reorganize your debts. Not everyone will qualify to have all of their eligible unsecured debts discharged in a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Filing a chapter 13 case is not the end of the world though. Filing a chapter 13 reorganization could result in the discharge of most or all of eligible unsecured debts, depending upon the circumstances, just like in a chapter 7. Chapter 13 requires that the filer pay back what they can afford to pay back, usually over three to five years. The monthly chapter 13 plan of reorganization payment could be very little, or quite a bit depending upon your income, expenses and assets.. In 2005 the Bankruptcy Code was modified to include a test to determine whether a filer has any disposable income to pay their unsecured debts with after normal living expenses. This is probably the largest area of confusion. Just because a bankruptcy filer spends $1,000 a month on food does not mean that expense will be allowed. If you have family of 6 or more people though, spending $1,000 a month may be very reasonable though. It all depends upon the circumstances. Or an expense for yoga lessons costing $1,000 a month. Is that reasonable in light of having a mountain of credit card debt? Yoga lessons will most likely be deemed not reasonable and need to be stopped so that the person can afford to pay something to their creditors. The bottom line is that filing bankruptcy is a personal decision that must be made by the person or business filing for bankruptcy protection. How a person or business fits into the bankruptcy box depends upon income, expenses and assets, and there are all different. | Acid Reflux – What Causes It? Jan 14th 2012, 07:11 Acid reflux is a common problem suffered by many people across the globe. It is also known as gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). It causes a lot of discomfort to the individual such as feeling of heartburn, difficulty to eat, headaches, pain in the abdomen, burning sensation in the esophagus etc. There are several causes for this condition to occur in the human body. Usually, this disease occurs when the liquid existing inside the stomach backs up inside the esophagus. This is a condition that tends to persist throughout the life of an individual. There are several other causes of heartburn. A) Causes a) Action of the LES The action of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter or LES may be one of the primary causes of the acid reflux. The esophagus is connected to the stomach. A muscle ring surrounds the bottom of the esophagus right at the point where it meets the stomach. Whenever one eats or drinks, the Lower Esophageal Sphincter lets the transfer of the food to the stomach. Thereafter, the muscle ring closes so that the food does not reflux. People having GERD have abnormal LES. It may show a weak contraction or to relaxed in order to facilitate reflux. b) Hiatus Hernia This can also be a major cause of acid reflux. However, this cannot be counted as a pre requisite. A hiatus hernia has the potential to disrupt the LES location. It is normally supposed to be in equilibrium with the diaphragm.. However, the hiatus hernia may push it up and this makes it lie in the chest. Since, the diaphragm is responsible in helping the LES to prevent reflux; this situation may create a severe problem. The reduced pressure makes hiatus hernia contribute to the reflux. c) Hernial Sac Acid reflux is commonly caused by a hiatus hernia due to the Hernial Sac. This sac is located near the esophagus. Acid gets trapped inside the sac. Since the sac is very closely located to the esophagus, it becomes easy to reflux when the LES relaxes. d) Pressure in the abdomen Excessive pressure at the level of the abdomen is a common physiological cause. The pressure tends to push stomach contents upwards inside the lining of the esophagus. Mostly pregnant women, obese and smokers suffer from this problem. e) Medication These are a common cause of acid reflux. Many synthetic drugs are capable of stimulating excessive production of gastric acid inside the stomach, thereby facilitating it to occur. Other medication may result in lower esophageal sphincter relaxation or reduction of the pressure at the esophageal level. f) Diet This is a major cause of acid heartburn. People consuming a lot of irritant or acidic foods contribute to the occurrence of acid reflux via facilitating overproduction of stomach acid and relaxation of esophageal valve. Indulging in certain bad eating habits can also result in the occurrence. g) Smoking and alcohol consumption Smoking and consuming alcohol can interfere with the normal muscular esophageal valve activity, thereby causing acid reflux to occur.
